About HuizhouHuizhou is a medium sized city by Chinese standards, only 5 million people. But unlike it's larger neighbors such as Shenzhen: Huizhou is much older and historic. It still has plenty of modern malls offering western food and goods. The expat community is one of the best things here, it's small and feels like a real family. There is only one bar street along with one micro-brew pub owned by a Canadian and every week the expats go there and relax. You don't get that same feeling in really big cities like Shenzhen or Guangzhou. Huizhou is a place to make lasting friendships.

How much do everyday items cost here?

Cost of LivingLiving in Shenzhen or Guangzhou you can expect to pay almost 4,000-5,000 RMB a month just in rent! Not, in Huizhou. At Edinburgh Education a teacher with a degree and TEFL will get 16,000 RMB a month. Let's break down expenses for a month.
That leaves nearly 11,000 RMB left over for saving, at present exchange values that is nearly $1,700.

Where you'll "probably" live.
Most of our foreign teachers choose to live here at GangHui apartments (See orange arrow). The rent is more expensive than other parts of Huizhou at around 1700 RMB a month. But it offers many western amenities.

Wall-Mart, Pizza-hut, KFC, Starbucks are the most well known western brands at Ganghui. Others such as Bluebird cafe are also expat favorites.
